The Masters- RE- Revolver Page 17
“Everything is going to be alright, Zenthra. If I don’t make it back or don’t see you for a long time just know that I love you,” Vlaykre told her.
She nodded, “I love you too. You need to come back. Not just for me but for our kids. They need you. I need you.”
Vlaykre nodded and smirked. Memories flashed in my head. They were memories of when I was a kid spending time with a woman that looked like a slightly younger version of Zenthra.
“What?” I said, shocked.
“You need to get to safety, okay?” Vlaykre told her.
She nodded in acknowledgement. I looked at them as they let go of each other, and Zenthra had tears running down her face. Vlaykre, Crynux, and Shadow Raven turned to walk into the black portal. Vlaykre and Crynux disappeared through the portal, but Raven turned toward us. Revolver finally sat up.
Raven put a familiar looking piece of paper on the ground. I saw that it had symbols on it.
“Here is a little something to keep you busy. Come forth, Vipercon!” Raven exclaimed, smiling.
He cut his hand with his sword and blood dropped onto the paper. A giant, yellow and orange viper appeared from under him. It was about as tall as the skyscrapers. We quickly struggled to back up quickly to get some distance from the Snake. Raven then jumped off from the viper’s head that he was standing on and went through the portal that disappeared right after. We painfully worked our way into fighting stances.
“Great. How do we fight this thing?” Revolver said.
I shook my head, “I don’t know. It’s been done before though. I think anyway.”
Zenthra was still standing behind us, now in fear from the viper.
“Zenthra, you need to get out of here!” I ordered.
She nodded and turned to run away into the city.
Revolver looked at me, curiously, “Wait, did you grab grenades before we left H.N.A.?”
I nodded my head, “No I didn’t.”
Grenades would have been very helpful in this situation. Vipercon was studying us before it began to strike. We readied to counter the attack. In a flash of light, someone appeared, running extremely fast between us and into the air by Vipercon’s face. The person then punched the snake in the face, lightning arced off his fists. It happened so quickly. He then followed that by a lightning kick that sent the giant snake crashing into the forest nearby.
I examined the person closer, and it was Miro. He landed on the ground, and we ran up to him. The snake then disappeared.
“I finally got to hit something after building up all that energy,” he spoke.
“Uh, thanks for the assist, Miro,” Revolver said.
I added, “Yeah. If you didn’t show up, we would probably be toast.”
Miro replied, “No problem.”
He then started to walk towards the city, and we watched him in slight confusion.
“Where are you going?” I asked him.
Miro turned without stopping, “Not sure yet. See ‘ya!”
We turned towards each other and shrugged.
“Speaking of where to go, where should we go?” I asked him.
“Well, did you figure out more of your past?” he questioned in response.
I replied, slightly disappointed, “I kind of did, but I still can’t fully remember.”
I started thinking about Vlaykre and wondered if he was okay.
“Well, that’s disappointing. I was thinking while we were separated, that I should explore my own past and go back to where I grew up. After hearing what Vlaykre said before, I think it’ll help with my guilt,” Revolver explained.
I nodded in agreement, “We should first heal up though.”
Revolver reached into his pocket and took out some red pills, “Here take this.”
I took one and we both swallowed them. We started to make our way back to the city to the closest hospital. Our injuries were minor thankfully.
While we were resting in our hospital beds, I asked Revolver, “Are you worried about Vlaykre?”
“I kind of am, but I’m sure he is fine. He can take care of himself. That man usually always has a plan,” Revolver replied.
“What if he doesn’t this time?” I questioned.
Revolver was silent for a moment then spoke, “Then we may have a problem.”
I wondered how big of a problem it would be. The next day we took off for the Aqua Republic.
Chapter 19 – The Truth Revealed
It took three days to get to the Aqua Republic and to the forest where Revolver grew up. We were making our way through the forest and getting closer. It was about mid-day.
“I think I’m finally getting used to walking during these long trips,” I said.
Revolver chuckled and looked back at me, “Well that is good. It should be just up ahead.”
A few minutes later, we arrived at the clearing where we were before. The same house from earlier was on the other side. Revolver put his hood up and I did the same.
“Okay, now that we are here, I should be able to find where my dad was killed. This way.” Revolver said, walking off into another part of the forest.
I followed him through the trees for a few minutes before arriving at another smaller clearing. Revolver looked at a tree and stared to look pale.
“Are you alright?” I asked him.
“Yeah, I’m fine. That’s where it happened,” he replied, pointing to the tree.
I studied the area to see what happened. It was hard to tell due to it happening a long time ago. Revolver shook his head and joined me. He approached the tree and started to analyze it. I did the same along with the surrounding area.
“I don’t see anything,” he said.
“That’s because you aren’t looking hard enough,” a familiar voice spoke.
We unsheathed our swords and snapped to the direction of where we heard the voice. We saw a female walk out of the trees, with a large sword in hand, pointing towards us.
“Claymore,” Revolver pointed out.
“What are you doing here this time, Revolver?” she asked.
Revolver sheathed his sword and removed his hood. I did the same.
Revolver answered, “I’m trying to learn the truth. Vlaykre told me there was more to dad’s death.”
Claymore examined us for a moment, then put her sword on her back.
“I believe you. I’m honestly glad you finally came to your senses,” she said, starting to smile.
Revolver replied, “I’m glad too.”
“Well, since you’re here I can show you what we found,” Claymore told us.
She walked over past us and kneeled in the tall grass.
She continued, “This is where we saw footsteps. They lead up near the tree. The prints showed that the person who made them was facing the tree. Were you and dad would have been.”
I responded, “Vlaykre had mentioned that there was more to the scene.”
“So, it’s true. Someone else was there. I remember my dad tripped somehow. I just thought he was being clumsy. He must have been pushed then,” Revolver concluded.
“Pushed, huh?” Claymore said, pondering.
“These footprints look similar to the boots that we are wearing with our assassin gear,” Revolver pointed out.
We looked at each other with concerned looks.
I then questioned, “So, you think an assassin did this?”
“Possibly. What would make them want to kill our dad?” Revolver questioned in response.
We all thought quietly for a moment. I wanted to know all the facts. I turned to Claymore.
“Are there any documents on the case?” I asked her.
She replied, “Yes, actually, but since it’s an old case, I have to go find my copy of them that buried somewhere back at the house. Care to join me?”
“Is that going to be okay?” Revolver asked.
I think he was referring to the fact that he wasn’t on good terms with her.
“Yes, it’s fine. Revo
lver, you were always welcome back here,” She told him.
Revolver got a confused look on his face, “Even though both today and the last time I came here you were ready to fight me?”
She explained, “Only because of the type of person you were. How am I supposed to know if you are here to try to kill me or another family member?”
“She has a good point,” I said in agreement.
Revolver crossed his arms, “Well, we weren’t. Especially now.”
“I can tell. As soon as you said you were looking into dad’s death, I knew something had changed in you. I also know you can’t do this on your own. I want to help you and Eclipse,” she replied.
“It’s Spex,” I told her.
She looked at me funny but smiled and corrected herself, “Spex.”
Revolver nodded and smirked, “Alright then. Thank you, Claymore.”
She smiled back, “You’re welcome. Let’s get going.”
She turned around to walk into the trees, and we followed her. As we were walking, Revolver was quiet and looking around. He seemed lost in thought. I wondered what he was thinking. A few minutes later, we arrived at a two-story white house with red trim.
Revolver examined the house and questioned, “This is your house? Wasn’t this Vlayru’s house?”
Claymore nodded, “Yeah, after he passed, it was given to Blaze, but he preferred to live in the Witch Village.”
Revolver the said, “We actually ran into Blaze at the Wind Temple Ruins.”
“Really? How is he?” Claymore asked.
“He is fine. He has a wife and daughter, I guess?” Revolver answered.
“I heard about him having a daughter. I haven’t met little Sydell yet though,” Claymore replied.
“Anyways, we wanted to be close to Grandma Tana without living in the old house with her, and this was perfect. We did some remodeling as well.”
I nodded, “Well if it works for you, then that is all that matters.”
Revolver nodded in agreement too.
“Let’s go inside then,” Claymore said.
We followed her inside the house and into the kitchen. Everything looked clean.
Revolver asked, “So, where is my brother in-law?”
Claymore made her way, “Oh, Aldus is at work. Aldus works as a lawyer at a law firm. He’s been busy
dealing with cases involving the attack that happened in downtown Waterfall City,”
“Man. It’s been over a week, and people are still talking about it,” Revolver pointed out.
Claymore look confused, “What do you mean?”
“We were there, trying stop the man who was attacking the city. He’s one of the people who are causing issues. His name is Crynux,” I explained.
“Wait, there is more than just one person causing issues?” she asked, surprised.
I nodded my head.
Revolver answered, “It’s Crynux who is teaming up with Shadow Raven, as well as the H.N.A. Crynux and Raven stole a sigil and captured Vlaykre. Before Vlaykre was captured, he told us that Crynux was wanting revenge for killing his master. The sigil has the ability to rip souls out of the body.”
“You think they are going to kill Vlaykre by ripping out his soul?” Claymore questioned.
I replied, “Probably…”
The thought started to make me sad for some reason.
Revolver spoke, “Like I said before, Vlaykre can take care of himself. We wouldn’t know where to find him even if we did look. Crynux and Raven will probably make another appearance somewhere. For now, let’s worry about Dad’s death then the assassins.”
“Yeah. Let’s do that,” Claymore agreed.
I sighed because I wanted to help Vlaykre, but they were right.
I nodded, “Yeah, okay.”
“Why do you care about Vlaykre so much all of a sudden, Spex?”
“I really don’t know,” I answered.
Revolver was giving me a concern look before turning his attention to Claymore. She started to dig through a drawer that had a lot of important looking papers.
“I worry about him too, but Revolver is right. Vlaykre can take care of himself,” She said in agreeance to Revolver.
Revolver looked at me and gestured his hand towards Claymore, “See?”
Two young kids, a happy little girl and a sad boy, then entered and approached Claymore. They both had backpacks strapped to their backs.
“Hi Mommy!” the girl exclaimed, cheerfully.
Claymore stood up and looked at the kids with a happy smile.
“Hey, Skyla, Macen. How was school today?” she asked them.
“It was good,” Skyla answered.
Claymore looked at Macen with worry.
She asked him, “What about you, Macen? Did you learn anything new today?”
Macen crossed his arms and looked down. Skyla look at him with a concerned look as well. She then continued to turn to our direction.
“Mommy, who are they?” she questioned, pointing to us.
“Oh kids, this is your uncle, Revolver, and his friend, Spex,” Claymore said, introducing us.
Revolver approached, smirking, “So, you’re my niece and nephew, huh?”
Skyla replied with a big smile, “It’s nice to finally meet you, Uncle Revolver.”
I looked at Revolver who had a weird look on his face. Macen was still not in a good mood and didn’t respond. He was studying Revolver quietly.
“Macen, are you alright?” Claymore questioned.
“I’m fine, Mom,” he answered.
Claymore put her hands on her hips, “Well, you don’t look fine.”
He looked back at her with a stern look, “I said I’m fine!”
Macen then stormed off out of the room.
Claymore and Skyla looked upset.
“What am I going to do with that boy,” Claymore said with a sigh.
Revolver, asked her, “What is wrong with him.”
“He’s been like then ever since they started school last year. They go to a standard school for now, but I hope to get them into Trinity School for Elementals when they are older. He’s a very smart and talented water user, the same as Skyla, Though Skyla is better. Something is holding Macen back, but I don’t know what it is,” Claymore explained, with a sad face.
“At school, he is by himself all the time,” Skyla pointed out.
Revolver started scratching his chin, “Interesting.”
I started to wonder myself.
Claymore then asked Skyla, “Hey, why don’t you go do your homework. The adults need to have an adult talk, okay?”
Skyla nodded, “Okay.”
She ran off in the same direction that Macen went and out of the room. We turned to Claymore who turned to us and smiled. I could tell she was trying to hide her true feelings of being worried about her kids.
“They’ll be fine. I thought I put it this drawer, but it might be in the office. Follow me,” She said.
We followed her, exited the room, walked through the hallway, and then into another room. The room was an office with a large desk and bookshelves against the walls. There was a cabinet off to the side and Claymore started to search through it. She finally pulled out some paperwork and handed it to us.
“Found it, finally,” she said, sighing in relief.
Revolver browsed through it first. He then handed it to me, and I read through it. It didn’t have anything new that we didn’t already know.
“Well, I feel better that I know for sure it wasn’t my fault for Dad’s death,” Revolver spoke.
“What do you want to do now, Revolver?” I asked him.
Revolver shook his head, “I don’t know.”
I didn’t say anything in response because I didn’t know what do to either.
Claymore looked a little irritated and spoke, “What you need to do is face the assassin’s head on. They obviously set you in the path leading to being part of their organization. Facing them will get the answers. We
need to solve Dad’s death and we can take them down at the same time.”
Revolver thought more. He looked at me as I finished processing Claymore’s suggestion.
